What distinguishes IQOS from traditional cigarettes?

With IQOS, tobacco is heated rather than burned. When a cigarette is lit, the tobacco burns at a temperature of more than 600°C, up to 800°C at the tip. IQOS, on the other hand, heats the tobacco up to 350°C, leaving out cigarette smoke smell. Instead, a nicotine-containing aerosol is produced.



A better alternative compared to cigarettes.

Because IQOS does not burn tobacco, 95% less harmful substances are produced¹. No fire means no ash and no cigarette smoke smell. This means you are less likely to bother those around you. Using IQOS creates a tobacco aerosol that dissipates quicker in comparison to cigarette smoke. Due to the absence of ash and the sticking smell of smoke, the use of IQOS is more considerate for your environment.



The benefits of a smoke-free future.

After consuming IQOS, there is less smell on your hands, hair and clothing compared to smoking cigarettes. IQOS also discolours² your teeth considerably less than cigarettes and has no negative impact on indoor air quality³.

1. 95% less” represents the average reductions in levels of a range of harmful chemicals (excluding nicotine) compared to the smoke of a reference cigarette (3R4F). It does not necessarily equal a 95% reduction in risk. IQOS is not risk-free. The tobacco used in this process contains nicotine, which is addictive. ​
2. If your teeth are already discolored by cigarette smoke, switching to IQOS will not reverse the color of this discoloration, so this IQOS benefit is most noticeable after professional tooth cleaning and only after a complete switch to IQOS. Source: Non-clinical laboratory study conducted in Switzerland, according to which human teeth and the most commonly used dental composite exposed to the IQOS aerosol for 3 weeks showed significantly less discoloration compared to teeth exposed to the smoke of a standard reference cigarette (3R4F). Contrary to real world conditions, teeth were not exposed to other staining substances such as coffee, tea or wine, which could influence the results.
